Required Skills, Knowledge and Experience:
• Deep knowledge and expertise of policymaking in the transport sector – comprehensive understanding of how the sector works, how different modes and operators interact, how policy is made, and how the impacts of transport policy are measured and assessed. A background in the rail sector would be an advantage.
• Strategic policy-making skills – ability to identify policy problems and objectives, develop practical solutions based robustly on complex and technical evidence and analysis, and respond to the broader political and strategic context.
• Project management experience – experience of managing projects through from inception through to execution, able to identify and mitigate project risks, keep delivery on track to agreed timeframes and scope and manage a team to deliver.
• Exceptional written communication skills – with experience in drafting sensitive and high-profile reports and other materials. The ability to structure documents and reports around a clear and compelling narrative, with arguments rigorously articulated and explained, and conclusions identified and robustly supported by evidence; and the ability to get to grips with complex and often technical issues and make them comprehensible and meaningful to the lay reader.
• Ability to work independently, prioritise effectively and lead projects. Experience in responding to competing short-term deadlines while driving forward long-term work.
